Most remodeling companies are builder-led. You tell them what you want, they build it. If you know exactly what you need, that works fine. But most homeowners don't know exactly what they need. They know something isn't working. They just don't know the best way to fix it.

That's where having a designer changes everything.

What builder-led looks like

In a typical remodeling project, the homeowner makes most of the design decisions. They pick materials, they choose layouts, they figure out what goes where. The builder executes the plan. If the homeowner makes a great decision, you get a great result. If they don't, you get something that looks okay but doesn't quite work.

What design-led looks like

In our model, a designer is involved from day one. Deanna sits down with every homeowner, asks questions about how they live, and designs solutions based on what she learns. She's not waiting for the homeowner to figure it out. She's bringing ideas, solving problems they haven't thought of yet, and making sure the final result works for their specific life.

ADD: A specific example. "A homeowner came to us wanting X. Deanna asked about Y and realized Z was the real problem. The solution was [something they never would have asked for but now can't live without]."

Why it matters for closets

Closets are personal. How you organize your clothes, your shoes, your accessories -- it's different for every person and every family. A good designer catches things a builder never would. Do you fold your jeans or hang them? Do you need a spot for gym bags? Is one person tall and the other isn't? These details shape the layout, and the layout is what makes a closet actually work.

ADD: Deanna's perspective in her own words. What does she see that a builder-only approach misses? What's the most common "aha moment" homeowners have during the design process?

It's not more expensive

This is the part that surprises people. Having a designer involved doesn't make the project cost more. It's built into our process. You're not paying for a designer on top of the build. You're getting better results from the same investment because someone who does this every day is making sure your money goes to the right places.

We're a husband-and-wife team. John builds it. Deanna designs it. The homeowner gets both perspectives from the start. That's what design-led means for us, and it's why our clients end up with closets that actually change their daily routine instead of just looking nice.
